Ethan Matthews hasn't felt anything in months. Burnt out, disconnected, running on professional autopilot, he lets his friends drag him into the wilderness. A premium guided trek through Arcadia Adventures' bio-engineered nature preserve in the Northern Cascades.

The forest is wrong. The trees are too tall, the silence too deliberate, and the company that built this place has been classifying deaths as "navigational deviations" for years. When something takes Jamie in the night and Alex starts hearing the forest think, Ethan discovers that the only way out runs straight through the thing Arcadia has been hiding.
